an East End Walk

This is a poster dedicated to all East Enders. I would like to make a booklet around East London. All my fascination about this area has been dramatically increased after a nice day spent walking from Bethnal Green to Wapping. These are some spreads I made with the computer after the trip, for my records. And who knows, maybe for future generations.

This is the main guidelines for the route, focusing on the beggining and the end of our walk.

This is a simple map of what there is around the tube of Bethnal Green. We visited the Museum of Childhood, which is quite nice and interesting. Full of kids, but much better that the stupid and expensive Pollock’s Toy Museum. An much, much bigger!

This is an unaccurate map of the whole area we covered, as well as the nearest areas. We visited the Museum of Childhood, as I said, spent a while in Bethal Green’s gardens, where I made an ugly (I can’t show it) drawing for a postcard. Then we walked towards Whitechapel Road, with its lively street market, a library that looks like a megastore but which should be very cutting-edge in public services, the East London Mosque, very exotic, with its entrance for men and then for woman, like in the toilets. Also the Royal London Hospital, which seems to have a museum inside. If you walk a little bit more towards the City, you could see also Whitechapel Gallery. But we headed straight into Shadwell, an interesting border area, until we found the Tobacco Dock and the silent elegance of Wapping. I liked the (refurbished) buildings of ancient docks, like the Gun’s Wharves. We reached the river Thames and enjoyed the views from the Thames Walk before getting back home.
